Nando’s noise
Nando’s Noise was an idea developed by my creative partner and I at the advertising agency, Farm (which later became Inferno/FCB Inferno). The concept was born out of a genuine LOVE Nando’s fans had for their chicken and the way they spoke about it online. We wanted to start a conversation between the brand and the fans, at a point where social media was just getting started. We knew it had to be interactive, modern (for the time) and most importantly, fun.
So we launched a microsite asking people to submit their own ‘Nando’s Noise’, which they could mix with others and share on Facebook or Twitter. Not only was this a chance to get silly (something Nando’s fans appreciated) but our three favourite sounds won a trip to the Nando’s homeland of South Africa.
More than 3,000 people uploaded their noises, the best of which we used in radio, digital display and restaurant assets. There were even some guest appearances from Rizzle Kicks, Rio Ferdinand, Olly Murs, Jameela Jmail and Andi Peters.
YouTube channel views were up by 300,000, Facebook likes were up by 130,000 and sales were up by 17% YOY. Stats worth making some noise about.
