HELLO

Welcome to my answer to the world’s toughest brief; writing about myself in less than 300 words. Here goes…

It’s 2008 and I’ve just fallen out of drama school into a global recession. Bad timing, they said, but after three years of beans on toast and little expectation of a Hollywood career, an intern’s wage didn’t sound too bad. In fact, if it meant I got to write all day, maybe it was quite the opposite.

£50 a week soon turned into low, but steady salary, on which I learned the ropes of advertising. I partnered with an art director and became a ‘creative’, writing some pretty awful ads, with varying levels of cringe. Most never saw the light of day, and for that, we can all be thankful. They taught me a lot though and meant that when I jacked it in to go freelance in 2012 (probably a little prematurely, tbh) I was confident in my move.

The next seven years were a Virgo’s dream, managing my own time and juggling projects with ad agencies, design studios and brands. My clients were always getting me back for one-off gigs and longer stints when they could and I was working on everything from short, quippy headlines to fully-integrated campaigns for the world’s leading fashion, food and FMCG brands.

Then babies arrived (well, the first came in 2015) and I needed routine again. So I teamed back up with a brilliant art director and we were hired at adam&eveddb.

It was here that we wrote ads for John Lewis & Partners, Haig Club, McCain, Graze and Mars, and ran the pitch-winning team for the V&A. To be totally honest, we smashed it.

But burnout beckoned.

And here I am, starting out on the freelance trail again, as we dive headfirst into the next great recession. I’m excited for the ride.
